Course Summary
This course covers the fundamentals of the upstream oil and gas industry. You’ll learn about how oil and natural gas were formed, and the different types of geological structures where they are found. We’ll review the different methods of exploring for hydrocarbons, and the drilling and production techniques used to recover them. Finally, this course will provide an overview of the key value creation steps in the upstream industry.
Course Content
You will learn to:
- Recognize the structure of the upstream oil and gas industry and the key value creation steps
- Describe how oil and natural gas were formed
- Identify the geological structures where hydrocarbons are found, and their key characteristics
- Differentiate between the types of hydrocarbons produced and how they are classified
- Describe the different methods of exploring for hydrocarbons, including drilling techniques
- Describe how hydrocarbons are produced, including recovery techniques
- Recognize the different ways of obtaining access to resources, and how reserves are evaluated and classified
