A Basic Overview of Petrochemicals - BOP

CPE Credits Awarded: 2
Categories: Oil Industry, Online Training, Petrochemicals

A Basic Overview of Petrochemicals is an online training course designed to take you through the manufacture of chemical compounds from petroleum and natural gas that create petrochemicals.

There are only nine different compounds that are the basis for all petrochemicals, and these nine are often called the “building blocks” for the petrochemical industry. They can be divided into three categories – olefins, aromatics, and natural gas-based compounds. In this course, we will examine each category in detail.

While this is an introduction to petrochemicals, you should already have some previous knowledge of refining chemistry and the basics of petroleum refining before taking this course.

Programme Level:  Intermediate

Course Code:  BOP

Industry:  The Oil Industry

Course Length:  2 hours

CPE Credits:  2 self-study CPE credits awarded for this course

You will learn to:

    - Identify the final products produced from olefin-based chemicals
    - Point out where aromatics come from and list the products they make
    - Recognize how methane is made into synthesis gas and what kinds of final products can be produced

Practice exercises and self-assessment quizzes are included to help reinforce key topics introduced throughout the course.

A comprehensive final test will be given at the end of the course.
